Lack of 3-D!

Last year was the 50th anniversary of 3-D cinema. You didn't hear that much about. Heck, even a major 3-D release didn't spur more than a footnote on that milestone. Mind you, despite apparently being filmed with quality 3-D viewing in mind, the movie was release using the crappy anaglyph (red/blue glasses) technique instead of the beautiful polarized lense technique.

This year, The Cinerama ran a retrospective on the Cinerama process. A grand total of one decent film was shot using this process, so they had to extend the program to include a variety of widescreen films.

On the other hand, there are many classic 3-D movies - Dial M For Murder, The Creature From The Black Lagoon, House Of Wax and Kiss Me, Kate just being the most obvious examples off the top of my head. The time could've been ripe for a kick ass revival.

Did anything happen?

Now, to rub salt in my bitter wounds, Starlight Express is coming to town with 3-D films as a highlight.

It's theater! It's already a three-dimensional experience!

C'mon, people!
