Love and not love

There's a review somewhere on Amazon of Strange Little Girls by Tori Amos that says that she somehow reveals what a jerk the first person narrator of the song "I'm Not In Love" by 10cc (the second greatest band named after semen), something like a the narrator of "Sad Eyes" by Robert John, who, while posessed of a soulful voice, is an incredibly huge asshole.

"I'm Not In Love", however, is not about someone who doesn't care. It's about the way love tears you apart, lays you out, eats you alive, smiles and makes that creepy Hannibal Lector sound in your ear, and how sometimes it's easier to deny it than to face that truth. The narrator isn't someone calloused to love, but too in the depths of it to cope with his life at all.

Not that said reviewer will be reading my blog, but it just bugs me to think about sometimes.
