More Land stuff

Dead Director Rises Again by Scott Foundas.

Land of the Dead Review by Michael Gingold.

I think a lot of what's thrown people off about Land of the Dead is actually exactly what it really does right. It's the first movie to truly explore a world in which people have moved past the horror of living in a world of the living dead and really settled in to a life. Day of the Dead basically stands as the awkward beginning stages of this process and this is the end result.

As such, it can't be a horror movie in any traditionally understood sense. It can't take the kind of shock and tension of Night of the Living Dead or Dawn of the Dead. It's moved beyond even the cynicism of Day. It's something new, that requires more thought.

The more I think about this movie, the more I admire the honesty of the thought process that bore it. I think it will continue to cause controversy for lack of simple thrills, but I also think it will, much like Day of the Dead, grow a stronger and stronger reputation as time goes by.
