Tonight's Double Feature

Started the evening with Race With The Devil, which had been intended as part of a double-feature with Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry, but the timing was off. Anyway, Race With The Devil was one of those movies that scared the all-fire piss out of me as a kid (along with Food of the Gods and A Stranger in our House, aka Summer of Fear). I can't say it was quite as effective as an adult, but it is a nicely effective paranoid thriller about two couples on the run from Satanists. Fun stuff.

Remember, "If you're going to race with the devil, you've got to be as fast as Hell!"

Then watched Tombs of the Blind Dead, which is the first movie in The Blind Dead Collection. I'd seen the "PG" rated English language version that had been available on DVD for a while, but watching the uncut Spanish language version was a revelation. Mind you, it's still mostly a lot of cool imagery and more great ideas than great execution, but it's very effective at building a mood and I'll definitely be watching the sequels in days ahead.

All in all, nothing beyond the realm of decent thrillers, but all good reminders why a nice slow pace is better for horror than MTV editing.
