Pulse by Kiyoshi Kurosawa reminded me a lot of Steven Soderbergh's Bubble.

They're both quiet and awkward explorations of the distances between people. They're also both done with a very naturalistic approach to light and long sequences without music. I am likewise having difficulty thinking of what to explain, certainly nothing to do with the skeleton of a plot this mood was wrapped around is what made it work... it's just the feeling of being alone, no matter who is there and the world is a shadow realm... if you've never felt that, you may not relate to the movie. It got seriously under my skin, though.
