The Witch Who Came From the Sea

The Witch Who Came From the Sea is an interesting little tidbit. I'm not quite sure what to say about it. It's not about a literal witch or, in the end, a literal sea.

The acting is strained at times. The story is simple and not terribly original. Somehow it has a daring quality that's impossible to not find compelling, however. Millie Perkins is riveting in the lead, as a woman going mad from childhood abuse and a lifestyle that doesn't serve her well...

It probably fits somewhere on the hypothetical list of movies I'd like to remake someday, somewhere below Shock Waves, although this I'd more likely do something "inspired by" it. In fact, I think Mick Garris and goddamn Joe Stefano would have been well served watching this before making Psycho IV: The Beginning, of course, they'd have been well served watching Psycho, too, so...

The intriguing title metaphor would be the only reason to do a direct remake.
